It’s a final farewell to one of the CSRA’s greatest bluegrass gospel singers. The Lewis Family held a concert in Lincolnton, Georgia, and for many, this farewell is bittersweet. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has more.
Lincolnton, GA—All good times must come to an end, and for the Lewis Family, this has become a reality.
“Little Roy” Lewis: “We sad about itm but we happy. We almost made 60 years with the Lewis Family.“
The family has been singing gospel music for more then 50 years in the CSRA. Saturday night, they held a final concert, in Lincolnton.
Hundreds from across the area came to see the final curtain call.
Spectator: “You growing up with them, being around them all your life, you take it for granted. We’re kind of known for our football team, but worldwide, we’re known for the Lewis Family.“
The group was founded by Roy “Pop” Lewis, who passed away in 2004. The family has always been a fixture on WJBF News Channel 6. They were invited on the air, April 1954, and since then, the Lewis Family has also become a part of the WJBF family.
“Little Roy” Lewis: “It’s good to go to your town and everyone knows who you are and it’s an honor to me. That’s the way Pop was, and that’s the way I always want to be remembered, that when I speak, that someone knew I was there.“
Spectator: “It’s sad to see this time come to a close.“
