KINGSTON, Jamaica - Add another to the list of dead celebrities whose legacy will be used to sell all kind of products. Heirs of Bob Marley are jumping into the pool when it comes to marketing the likeness of the late reggae legend. And that means you may soon see everything from Bob Marley-themed video games, Marley shoes - and even snowboards bearing the likeness of the Jamaican superstar. Members of the Marley clan are trying to enforce their exclusive rights to Marley’s image, which has grown steadily since he died of brain cancer in 1981. Forbes magazine says the Marley name, look and sound can generate about $600 million a year in sales of licensed products. The move to capitalize on Marley’s popularity is seen by some fans as a sell out. But some say with all the fake items bearing his name and likeness, it’s only fair that the family begin to reap the benefits of the legacy.
