Miley Cyrus Movie Starts Filming In Tybee Island, GA Next Week

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - Tybee Island has landed a starring role in the new Miley Cyrus movie, and audiences seeing the film next year won’t have to wait for the credits to find out the name of the beach community filling the screen.

Location managers for the movie “The Last Song,“ which starts filming on Tybee next week, told a town meeting Monday that the island proved too unique to masquerade as North Carolina’s Wrightsville Beach…the story’s location in the original screenplay.

The script’s writer, novelist Nicholas Sparks, agreed to change the movie’s setting to Tybee and neighboring Savannah.

Tybee Island City Manager Diane Schleicher said publicity from the movie should have a huge economic impact on Georgia’s largest public beach.
