Augusta, GA—The Augusta Lynx unveiled new uniforms, complete with new color scheme, as well as introducing a new play-by-play announcer at a news conference on Wednesday.

The major change is the addition of red to the team’s color scheme. Both home and away jerseys will feature red, in addition to the traditional black and blue.

“When Jan (Hodges-Burch), Robert Burch and I purchased the team a few years ago, we were really wanting to give the entire operation a new and improved look,“ Lynx General Manager Dan Troutman said.  “We really think that adding some new elements to the club’s uniforms helps make the overall look of the club more fun and exciting.“

The Lynx also introduced their new play-by-play radio voice Anthony Langella. Langella served last season as the broadcaster and director of media relations with the former Pensacola Pilots, where he worked with current Lynx head coach John Marks.

The Lynx will play their first pre-season game this Friday night against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:30pm at the James Brown Arena. Tickets are free and available only at Shepherd Blood Centers.

The team relesed the following press release:

“When Jan, Robert and I purchased the team a few years ago, we were really wanting to give the entire operation a new and improved look,“ Lynx General Manager Dan Troutman said. “We really think that adding some new elements to the club’s uniforms really help make the overall look of the club more fun and exciting.“

The team’s white jerseys feature the Lynx head logo as the main crest, with blue and red stripes on the sleeves and around the waist. The dark jerseys are royal blue, with black shoulders, red and white piping, and “AUGUSTA” spelled diagonally across the chest in blue letters. The team will wear both kits with red pants, red helmets, and red gloves.  Attached is a graphical representation of the team’s new uniforms.

The team also introduced Anthony Langella as the club’s new broadcaster. Langella spent the most recent season as broadcaster and director of media relations with the former Pensacola Ice Pilots, where he worked with current Lynx head coach John Marks. Prior to working with Pensacola, Langella served in a similar role with the former Texas Wildcatters during the 2006-07 season.

Before joining the ECHL, he worked as a media relations assistant with the Florida Panthers of the NHL from 2001 through 2006. Langella graduated from the University of Miami (Fla.) in 2001 and also received his MBA from his alma mater in 2004. While at Miami, Langella broadcasted Hurricane football, baseball and basketball for the student radio station WVUM. Langella is a native of Cherry Hill, N.J.

“I’m thrilled to be here in Augusta and to join the Lynx organization,“ Langella said. “I know the team has a great tradition here in Augusta, and I want to thank Dan Troutman for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to the start of the season, and the opportunity to work with John Marks again.“

Fans can catch their first glimpse of the 2008-09 Augusta Lynx by stopping by any Shepeard Blood Center for their free ticket to watch the Lynx vs. the Gwinnett Gladiators on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

The Augusta Lynx begin their 11th season of play when they host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Friday, Oct. 17th at 7:30 p.m. Fans coming for opening night are eligible to enter a raffle for a free Breitling watch and shopping spree courtesy of Windsor Jewelers and are eligible for a free gift from Carhartt, courtesy of Boots, Bridles and Britches.  Any fan bringing a canned good to the game for Golden Harvest Food Bank’s Spooky to be Hungry promotion is also eligible for a buy-one-get-one-free voucher to any future regular-season game.

They kind of look like a big tube sock.

The new uniforms are an eye sore.  They look cheap.  The Lynx went from one of the best looking uniforms in the ECHL to the worst.

I agree.  These uniforms scream GO RANGERS!!  They do not make me think of the Augusta Lynx nor the Lightning.  They do not inspire me as a fan.  Maybe they will grow on us…. like mold.

Frankly, I found the other design more exciting and on par. It made me think Lightning. These make me think New York Rangers immediately. Did I miss a press release?
It’s not that they are bad, just confusing as to whose affiliate they are. But I’m partial to the Lynx Blue and Black.
