A former Aiken County school administrator was arrested Tuesday, on sex crime charges dating back to the 1970’s. A man who says he was molested by Stephen Coke Eubanks, 67, spoke to us Tuesday about another case involving a convicted child molester from the same time period. He is considering bringing a lawsuit against the former North Augusta Planning Commission chairman, Edward Meloan. Meloan was convicted, last October, of molesting Greg Lass, and others, when they were boys back in the 70’s.
Aiken County, SC—These two separate cases came up Tuesday, after Greg Lass called News Channel 6 reporter Renita Crawford and said he wanted to talk about what happened to him. Lass’ experience was one of the reasons SLED filed the charges against Stephen Coke Eubanks, 67, who was a school administrator at North Augusta High School and Paul Knox Junior High (now Paul Knox Middle School). But, we first talked to Lass about the former North Augusta Planning Commission chairman, Edward Meloan.
Last October, Meloan was sentenced to 78 years in prison after pleading guilty to molesting four boys, back in the 1970’s. Lass was in the courtroom for that sentencing: “He never could look at me,“ says Lass. “I wish he would have…I would have given him a look. He’s right where he’s supposed to be.“
Lass says the abuse started when he was 9, and didn’t stop until 2 years later. He says he’s forgiven Meloan, but he will never forget what happened: “I feel like he owes me my whole life back, he took away my innocence when I was 9, 10-years-old, and you can’t get that back, and he needs to pay for what he did, and everybody else involved needs to pay, too.“
Victims told the judge they were forced to engage in sexual acts with Meloan, and in some cases, each other. Investigators say they also found 9,000 digital pictures of child pornography when they searched Meloan’s home. Lass thinks it’s time for Meloan to pay: “I think it’s time for a civil case. I think he needs to pay restitution for what he’s done, not just me, anyone else involved. If they want to put their name in the hat, I think we should get restituiton for what he’s done. That’s the way the legal system works, that’s justice.“
Meloan’s wife, Susan, also faced charges. She was accused of having sex with one of the victims.
As for the new accusations against former school administrator Stephen Eubanks, you’ll hear what Lass has to say about him Tuesday night at 11 only on WJBF News Channel 6.

I’m new to the area. As soon as I saw Lass’s interview he gave me a very scary feeling.
He is involved in two cases? Ok first he Claims that he is violated by one man when he was 9 or 10. And during the interview he says that it was wrong and then he allows it to happen again several years later. I believe he is trying to clean his soiled soul from wanting and acting on these events and maybe events we do not know about.
. I do not condom this type of behavior and I do feel sorry for the woman but the man comes across as someone who has DOLLAR SIGNS in his eyes.

You talk about getting “revenge”....I feel that if you had wanted this then why didn’t you come forward all those years ago and get it? This is the key question that I feel will play the main factor on your part in a court of law. It is going to be very hard to prove just what really transpired 30 some odd years ago. It seems to me that just maybe you may have enjoyed it via the “pot” and “alcohol” issue and whatever else you are claiming happened? I do NOT have any compassion for those who do these things to kids mind you, but, I do feel a responsibility to those to step forward and speak out at that time…meaning, you could have told your parents, friends, etc…But, you chose to continue on with your life and not say a word. Now, you want to destroy a good mans life all for “revenge”...that, in itself, is a crime as far as I am concerned. If this case is proved without a doubt, ( not merely on the word of others) then may the accused be punished. To those of you who may have went through this in your younger years…..and to those who are going through it now….I feel very sad for you…but, you must come forward regardless of the shame you may feel and speak up. Only God knows the real truth and when our day comes to meet our maker…we shall ALL know the truth!
Let me help everybody out. IT’S TRUE! During 1975/1976 Steve Eubanks took advantage of me and several other boys (15 yrs. old) and a girl (15yrs old) that I personally witnessed on several occasions at his home just off of Georgia Ave. He also provided pot and beer. This is something I am most definitely not proud of, however, it did happen. When I found out “Eubies” (his nick name by his victims) was at the 1977 30 year class reunion - It really pissed me off. It’s time I get my revenge and hopefully prevent this from happening to other children. I have already provided SLED with a statement. I would hate to know just how many children he has taken advantage of in his lifetime. For those of you who want to ask why did it take so long for me to say something I DON’T HAVE AN ANSWER.
Ms. Crawford,
First of all, your pronunciation of Lancaster is wrong and you certainly do not sound like you may be originally from the Carolina’s.
Second, I have known Steve Eubanks since 1982 and know that he is not the person that your news station and others are reporting him to be.
It seems that this person, Gregory Lass, who is accusing Mr. Eubanks of these charges took him over 30 some odd years to come forward and accuse Steve of this. How come? And, why did it take Mr. Lass so very long to come out and accuse Mr. Eubanks of these accusations?
Please do get you pronunciation of the Southern word, LANCASTER correct as you sound uneducated in my opinion.
