Edgefield County, SC—As the school year comes to an end the Edgefield County School Board is being asked to fire Superintendent Dr. Mary Rice-Crenshaw.

Charles Kemp and another local businessman are leading a local citizens group calling for her ousting, at FireCrenshaw.com.

Kemp: “If you complain to the board about the Superintendent they don’t seem to have much enthusiasm about looking into her deeds or misdeeds.”

The online petition claims: Crenshaw has mishandled cases of violence or the threat of violence in schools; the budget is being severely mismanaged and the teacher workforce has been coerced and intimidated.

The citizens group claims teachers were mislead into agreeing to give back part of their salary to cover budget shortfalls.

Kemp: “There may be some misuse of funds that’s to be determined, and as far as intimidation go, I won’t say that has been proven, but it has been talked about around town.”

The petition claims there is a conflict of interest with a grant-writing-non-profit that Dr. Rice-Crenshaw founded.

Kemp: “I feel that Dr. Rice-Crenshaw may be using her job to further benefit her grant-writing company, that I understand is run by her, or has some interest in.”

More than a hundred people have signed the online petition.

Repeated attempts to reach Dr. Rice-Crenshaw at the board office and by phone were unsuccessful.
