GA Deer Farmer Fined For Running Pay-To-Hunt Facility

A Washington County deer farmer has been fined after being accused of running an illegal pay-to-hunt facility on his property. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials have levied $70,000 in fines against Jens Brynteson, who owns Hoofbeat Plantation in Warthen. The charges are based on an 18-month investigation by the state.

WARTHEN, Ga. (AP) - A Washington County deer farmer has been fined after being accused of running an illegal pay-to-hunt facility on his property.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials have levied $70,000 in fines against Jens Brynteson, who owns Hoofbeat Plantation in Warthen. The charges are based on an 18-month investigation by the state.

Dan Forster, director of the state’s Wildlife Resources Division, says under state regulations, deer farmers are only allowed to raise nonnative species for commercial food production. But state officials say Brynteson was staging “canned hunts” where people stalk deer in a large fenced-in area.

Brynteson’s deer farming license also expired March 31.

Brynteson did not immediately return a call for comment from The Associated Press.
