WJBF News Channel 6 can confirm that a Fort Gordon brush fire, near the border on post at the reservoir, is 80-percent under control. Heavy smoke still covers much of the overhead sky. And WJBF has learned some some people were being evacuated from Belfair Estates. WJBF has a crew on scene and will update as information comes in. 6:25 p.m. UPDATE: We are told by Fort Gordon officials that the brush fire is now out.
4:00 p.m. UPDATE: We are now told by officials that the fire is 80% contained, and is now just mostly smoke.
3:53 p.m. UPDATE: Fire crews are staging along Budapest Drive.
3:45 p.m. UPDATE: We have now learned that residents in Belfair Lakes are being evacuated.

Augusta, GA—WJBF News Channel 6 has learned there is a brush fire near Fort Gordon’s Gate 1.
Officials ask that you avoid that area as traffic may slow the response of emergency vehicles.
