Augusta Sinkhole Problem Tied To Corrugated Metal Pipe

They are extremely dangerous.  Sink holes that form when a storm pipe fails beneath a roadway.  Repairs are costly but they are really just a Band-Aid.  It’s a problem that can occur almost anytime & anywhere in the Garden City.  Emily Winston travels Meadowbrook Drive nearly every day but the street is not passable now.  Emily Winston: “It’s a concern with all the traffic and stuff, and it’s inconvenient going back and forth when I travel every time.”  Meadowbrook is blocked to allow crews to make emergency repairs to 24o feet of corrugated metal storm pipe.  The line failed beneath the roadway. And when you have troubled down below that can create big trouble for the cars traveling above.
Dennis Stroud: “That corrugated metal pipe one it begin to rust and deteriorate the weight of the vehicle press down on it eventually you get a total cave in.”
Emily Winston: “Well that’s scary it’s dangerous also you’ve got school buses traveling down there it’s very dangerous if it falls in quite a few people can fall in there.

The city got to the Meadowbrook cave in before a catastrophe. The old metal pipe, called CMP, is being taken out and will be replaced by stronger concrete pipe.  But city officials know this crew could be on another street tomorrow taking care of another cave in.
Charles Jones: “Unfortunately this county is plagued with corrugated metal pipe.  You pick a road, I can find corrugated metal pipe as the citizens see it caving in I’ll come out and make the repairs
Emily Watson: “Oh no that’s a real concern yes especially with my children I don’t like to travel down a road that’s going to cave in.”
