The Lynx Play What Could Be Their Last Home Game

Augusta, Ga-

Jan Burch, Augusta Lynx Co-owner:  “At this point in time, I’m begging anyone who can come and help us with this, the urgency is at hand no doubt.”

It’s a plea that Augusta Lynx owners have never had to make before.

Robert Burch, Augusta Lynx Co-owner:  “I never thought it would come to this.  We’ve always thought that we could turn this team around a little bit quicker than we’d been able to turn it around.”

For 10 years, the Augusta Lynx have called the James Brown Arena home.  But Saturday night may be the last time they do.

Holly Hadden, Lynx Fan:  “It’s heartbreaking I mean I really, because this is what we love to do you know on the weekends.”

The hard times we’re all facing has hit harder than expected for the Lynx. The organization says they need to fill more seats because nearly $300,000 is what’s needed to keep the hockey team in Augusta.  And they only have days to do it.

Burch:  “We’ve got several people who are very interested in it and most of them are out of town.  We’ve got some local people who we are talking to and they’re very interested too.”

Steven Riffe and his family have been going to Lynx games for years.  The thought of losing a team he loves is something even he has a hard time dealing with.

Steven Riffe, Lynx fan:  “I think the community should support a home team like that you know because for one our community is something to be proud of and to be able to have our own hockey team is something we should really be proud of.”

For now, co-owner Robert Burch wants all the fans to know one thing.

Burch:  “If I could tell them one thing, I would think that, I would hope that they would appreciate all of the workers and everything that goes into making a hockey game an event.”

If the owner’s can’t keep the Lynx on their own, there’s a chance the ECHL will take them over and hopefully keep them in Augusta.
