Augusta, Ga.—- Allen Danzig is casting a ballot early to avoid longer lines come November 4th. Richmond County’s Board of Elections Director, Lynn Bailey, expects an 80% voter turnout and with that many people crowd control could be a concern. That’s why the Richmond County Sheriff’s office is getting ready.

Colonel Gary Powell, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office: “After 911 we ordered a lot of riot equipment for our cars we trained a few of them then we just ordered some new shields we decided we will train some more just in preparation.“

Colonel Powell says the force goes through training at least once a month so this isn’t anything new. Because the election happens to fall at the beginning of the month, it coincided with the training.

Colonel Powell: “That’s what they are actually training for, a riot response unit a mobile field force is what it’s called. It has nothing to do with race we are just being to be prepared.“

Voters we talked to say despite the huge crowds they have faith that everything will alright.

Demetrius Minor, Augusta Voter: “Don’t be afraid of any fear tactics and I hope and pray that Richmond County will have everything under control. But don’t be intimidated to vote it’s important to let your voice be heard.“

Allen Danzig, Augusta Voter: “I have faith in the people that no matter who wins the election people will behave responsibly and just deal with it and it’s a historic election first time in history we are in a situation like this.“

At this point the only problem authorities are concerned about is the traffic flow.
