UPDATED: CSRA Election Wrapup
We have results from some of the Two-State’s major political races from Tuesday’s elections.
CSRA Election Wrapup
Georgia Senate District 22:
In The Georgia Senate District 22 seat, it looks like incumbent Ed Tarver will return to Atlanta…
He’s leading Republican Jim Powell 79 percent to 21 percent.
Georgia U.S. House District 12:
Democrat John Barrow was vying for the seat in race for Georgia U.S. House District 12, over Republican John Stone.
Barrow has been declared the winner. District 12 stretches from Savannah to Milledgeville and includes Augusta and Crawfordville.
Stone, a former aide to the late Congressman Charlie Norwood, says he’ll keep his campaign team in place to work toward winning the seat back from Barrow in 2010.
Georgia U.S. House District 10:
In Georgia’s U.S. House District 10, where the late Norwood served, the incumbent is keeping his seat.
Democrat Bobby Saxon challenged Paul Broun…but, Broun has nothing to worry about. He will continue his work in the 10th district.
Columbia County SPLOST/Aquatics Center:
Columbia County voters decided whether they wanted an aquatic center, and whether to renew a one penny SPLOST tax.
Voters decided they did not want an aquatics center: 63% percent said ‘no’, and 37% said ‘yes.‘
Also, voters have approved the one penny sales tax by just a slim margin: 51% percent said ‘yes,‘ while 49% said ‘no.‘ The SPLOST tax will last through 2016, and will pay for infrastructure improvements.
Burke County Sheriff:
In Burke County, longtime Sheriff, Democrat Greg Coursey, will keep his seat. He beat out Republican Curt St. Germaine by almost 3,000 votes. St. Germaine only got around 31% of the vote.
Lincoln County Sheriff:
In Lincoln County, incumbent Republican, Gerald Lawson will remain the sheriff. He leads Democrat Bruce Beggs with 53 percent of the vote. Beggs got 47 percent.
We talked to the winner, Sheriff Lawson, and he says he plans to continue cleaning up the streets.
Saluda County Sheriff:
In the Saluda County Sheriff race, it appears incumbent Jason Booth will retain his position. We were originally told Booth lost, but he did, in fact, win by nearly 400 votes. Booth garnered just over 52 percent of the vote, with John Perry gathering a little over 47 percent.
Richmond County BOE District 5:
Taking a look at the Richmond County Board of Education race for District 5…
Joe Scott and James Williams were competing in that race. Scott is now leading Williams with 72% of the vote.
South Carolina U.S. Senate:
Another big race in South Carolina is the race for U.S. Senate.
Incumbent Republican Lindsey Graham is holding onto his seat, as other Republican senators are losing theirs…Graham took the lead over Bob Conley.
South Carolina U.S House District 3:
Republican Gresham Barrett has successfully been elected to a fourth term in Congress…he faced Democrat Jane Dyer for South Carolina’s U.S. House District 3.
Barrett got 65 percent of the vote, while Dyer only got 35 percent.
Barrett is the second-ranking Republican on the state’s Budget Committee.
