Day Two in Search for Murder Suspect

Augusta, GA—- Yvette has lived in Cherry Tree Crossing for three years, and like many neighbors we’ve talked to, she says violence is out of control. Richmond County investigators say they believe Cornelius Moore is hiding here.

Yvette, neighbor: “I was scared to take my baby in the house yesterday. But like I said it’s always shooting out here. I done got used to it by now.“

A daylong search that began on Tuesday continued Wednesday. Deputies patrolled the area looking for Moore. They say he’s a suspect in the deadly home invasion that claimed the life of Jezreel Hammond. On Tuesday, authorities searched cars checked trucks and passed out hundreds of flyers hoping to catch Moore. They also searched from a helicopter but Wednesday was a different story. Police were not as visible in the area because they were following new leads. Instead they went undercover to search for Moore. Yvette says people living here may not help because they could be fearful for their lives.

Yvette, neighbor: “When stuff happens like this everyday just shy away and try to stay to themselves to keep from getting involved in it.”

Yvette says she hopes this manhunt will prompt investigators to enforce curfew laws for teenagers.

Yvette, Neighbor: “Every time you turn around they always doing something always in trouble always doing something. We’ll just be stuck in a situation like this until the law enforcement start doing something with the juveniles.“
