ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Officials at the University of Georgia are urging Athens residents to be cautious as the search for a marketing professor suspected in three killings continues.
Classes resumed Monday on the campus where 57-year-old George Zinkhan has taught since the 1990s. Meanwhile, the university announced that he has been fired.
As a precaution, university police carried assault rifles as they patrolled on foot, but University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said investigators believe Zinkhan had left Athens, 70 miles east of Atlanta.
Authorities have been searching for him since Saturday’s shootings. Killed were Zinkhan’s wife, Marie Bruce; Clemson University economist Tom Tanner; and Ben Teague.
All three were longtime members of a local theater group in Athens.
