Columbia, SC—Everyone’s looking for a bargain at this time of year, especially with the current economic situation, and one of the best ones around is being offered by the state of South Carolina.

At its Surplus Property Warehouse in West Columbia, you can buy a $200 used laptop computer for just $25 if you bring in a $50 toy (with receipt) to donate to Toys for Tots. You can also get discounts on desktop computers, monitors, printers, office equipment and tools.

A $15 toy will earn you a 25 percent discount, a $25 toy means a 50 percent discount and a toy that cost $50 or more will take 70 percent off the price of sale items at the warehouse.

The Surplus Property office is also offering certain used state vehicles at a discount. A $75 toy donation will knock $300 off the price of certain cars, trucks and vans.

The computers do not have hard drives or operating systems, which are removed for security reasons since the computers were used by state agencies.

Great Deals for a Great Cause: S.C. Surplus Property Teams With Toys for Tots for Holiday Sale

From now through December 12, the Budget and Control Board’s Surplus Property Warehouse is offering great deals for customers who donate toys to the Toys for Tots program.

“With the economy in turmoil this holiday season, it is important more than ever to save money,” State Surplus Property Manager Tom Hornsby said. “We want to help customers save money while also allowing them to help us give back to the children of Columbia.”

Donations translate into great savings for customers. With a $75 toy donation, customers will receive a $300 discount on the purchase of select automobiles available to the public. To receive the discount, just bring the toy and receipt with you to the warehouse.

We will have over 50 select Gateway laptop computers priced at $200 each. A $50 toy donation will reduce this price to just $25 (limit one per customer). You can also get discounts on other surplus items such as office equipment and furniture. A $15 toy will earn you a 25 percent discount, a $25 toy receives a 50 percent discount and a toy valued at $50 or more will permit customers to take 70 percent off. Certain other sale items are eligible for a 90 percent discount with the donation of a $60 toy.

Surplus Property has worked with U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots for the last four years.

The General Services Division of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board operates South Carolina’s Surplus Property Office with the purpose of disposing of surplus property and equipment for the state and federal governments. The Surplus Property Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is located at 1441 Boston Avenue, West Columbia, South Carolina.
