DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally says he’ll work for $1 per year if the automaker has to take any government loan money.
The plan Ford is presenting to Congress this week also says it will cancel all management employees’ 2009 bonuses and will not pay any merit increases for its North American salaried employees next year.
Mulally said in an interview Tuesday that Ford will emphasize its cost cutting efforts with the United Auto Workers union and will give much more detail to Congress than it did during a visit earlier this month.
The company also will accelerate plans to roll out electric cars as part of the plan it will present to Congress this week.
Mulally says Ford has said it has enough cash to make it through 2009 and may not need government help.

RE: R & R Heater Pipe V-8 281 4.6 L Engine (Under Intake Manifold)
Dear Sirs:
I bring this to your attention as any owner of a Ford product can fall victim to this
scam that I encountered at AAA Auto Repair, Peoria, AZ. We are led to believe,
(owners of Ford products with the V-8 281 4.6 L Engine) that the intake manifold
must be removed to install heater pipe on this engine. The manifold is NOT
removed as WAS this case on my daughter’s car, a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis.
They disguise this by showing on invoice as “Replace intake manifold gaskets”.
Heater pipe is listed under parts. Invoice shows no labor charge to install. This
pipe not visible to owners, so they do not know if it needs replaced. This scam
is probably being used in service departments and repair shops all over the
country. I am sure you will investigate this matter promptly and thoroughly.
Was there ever a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) put out to cover heater pipe
R & R?
Repair manuals updated to cover Heater Pipe R & R?
I have documents/statements that I will make available to any/all persons or
groups and other parties interested in bringing about and exposing any auto repair
for using fraudulent and deceptive methods as stated above. The car is available
to be viewed by all parties.

All I received from FORD was a RUDE telephone call and would not answer my questions.
Ford Motor Company is using fraudulent and deceptive
methods for making repairs on heater pipe/tube found on
cars with the V-8 281 4.6L engines since 1992. Labor
charges are based on the removal of INTAKE MANIFOLD.
Pipe/tube is then installed by using method that takes
approx. 2/3 less time. (intake manifold is not removed)
This scam is being used in service departments and
repair shops all over the country
Removal and installation of HEATER PIPE on V8-281 4.6L engine. ( INTAKE
MANIFOLD ON CAR) 1994 Mercury Grd Mar.
( Removing pipe from rear of ENGINE)
Remove clamp and hose from pipe at rear of engine,
Remove (2) bolts holding pipe to intake manifold. (rear)
Using Hose Clamp Pliers ( Snap-on HCP28 or eqiv.) reach thru opening behind
Alternator and spark plug wires.
To remove clamp from pump inlet,
Twist and turn pipe ( pipe is formed to clear other engine parts) to remove.
Hose and clamp on intake may have to be moved out of way to clear pipe.
Reverse procedure to install new pipe
It seems Ford will only correct consumer problem when prodded by A Federal Angency or Lawsuits. NO BAILOUT…......... “
