Aiken, SC—A home powered by hydrogen? Sound far-fetched? It could be here quicker than you think. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe explains.

Plans for a home that extracts the hydrogen from water and uses it for power were unveiled in Aiken, Thursday.

The home will be built at “The Ridge At Chukker Creek”, in Aiken.  That development already has what are called “zero energy” homes. The newest addition of the hydrogen home makes this the greenest subdivision in America.

Dr. Scott Greenway, Greenway Energy: “Your bill at the end of the year, I think will be close to zero, and in fact, you may, by storing some of your energy when you don’t need it, you might be selling some of your energy back to the electric company, making a little bit of money off of this.“

How much for a home that runs on hydrogen? It could be an extra $50,000 tacked on to the home’s value. The group expects to break ground in the next few months.

Being advanced in age means I will miss the ever-gouging, money grubbing power companies finally being put in their rightful place (the junkyard) by the new U.S. Off the Grid, All Hydrogen, Green Homes to come.
Still, I worry that Bob the Builder, now all grown up to be Robert the Greedy Developer, will notch the Green Home Market up to $1,000,000.00 per unit (to be completed by illegal Mexican labor, of course) and well out of reach for most American families, as usual!
I prey that I may yet live to see a cost effective, fully portable hydrogen generator/water heater set which can be “plumbed” into any existing US home hit the housing market prior to my drop dead date!
Thanks for the news!
