Michael Jackson’s Family Takes Steps To Take Of Estate, Kids

Michael Jackson’s father said Monday his family is waiting for results of a private autopsy before deciding on funeral arrangements. But, the Jackson family did go to court Monday, taking the first steps toward managing Michael Jackson’s estate, and taking care of his three children. ABC News’ Linsey Davis reports from in Encino, California.

Encino, CA—Fans gathered near the Jackson family home had hoped for this moment: Joe Jackson strolled the street lined with balloons, posters, and flowers in honor of his son, the ‘King of Pop.‘

Funeral discussions continued at the Jackson family home, Monday, this time with input from the Reverend Al Sharpton.

Reverend Al Sharpton: “We are talking about a historic figure, this is not something you do carelessly and spontaneously.“

Laying her son to rest is not Katherine Jackson’s only concern. In addition to filing a petition seeking control of Jackson’s estate, a judge granted his mother temporary custody of his three children. A hearing in August will decide permanent guardianship.

Joe Jackson: “This is where they belong, we are going to take care of them.“

New conflicting details are emerging about the singer’s final moments. Contrary to previous reports, the attorney for Dr. Conrad Murray says the physician did not inject the entertainer with demerol before he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The family ordered a second autopsy after expressing doubts about Jackson being addicted to prescription drugs.

Joe Jackson: “I want to see how the autosy is coming out, you know, the second autopsy.“

In a star-studded tribute, Sunday night…the BET awards honored the ‘King of Pop’ with his signature moves, including the moonwalk and reenactments of famous scenes from his music videos.

Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson’s sister: “To you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family.“
