Ed Turner Rock and Soul Revue 2011 - Rehearsal with Jenna Lee Thomas and News Channel 6

Ed Turner and his band have been practicing for months for their highly anticipated rock and soul revue august 12th and 13th.

You may remember Ed's former band, Ed Turner No. 9. They rocked out to beatles songs at numerous charity concerts.

Ed Turner: "Well we did all the beatles albums and I thought well, let's reinvent ourselves. And I started Ed Turner Rock and Soul Revue."

This time around they're playing classic rock songs from the 60's and 70's.

Ed: "Those were the magic decades of rock and roll. We play three sets. We give Bruce Springsteen a run for his money, we play longer than the boss does."

They're also playing songs by Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, and Van Morrison...to name a few. And they let me sit-in on their rehearsal.

Ed: "Tonight we're going to work on a couple of numbers that we'd like to feature you on percussion. Yes, Jenna Lee will put the word perk into percussion."

Oh boy...well I'm going to need a little help from my friends. They even took a little time out of their set list to play one of my favorite karaoke songs...

But getting back to the real musicians, these guys practiced for four months to prep for their shows.

Zach Swenson, drums: "There were a lot of times when, three, four months ago, when we come over here and do what we call 'woodshedding.' Which is basically sitting around and talking about the music we like from that period."

Ed: "If people like classic rock radio, then they'll like the Ed Turner Rock and Soul Revue, because that's what we do."

And they don't do it for themselves...

Ed: "The band wants to raise money for our local charities. We feel as musicians you're suppose to give back to your community."

Since the band started in 2007, they've raised over a quarter of a million dollars for the Augusta Humane Society and various local charities for abused and in-need children.

Zach: "And it's nice to do something for charity and see it affect your community. Kids had a christmas because of us last year. I mean we're such a small part of it, it's everyone else that comes out. But I mean that's amazing...800 kids were warm and fed and receiving gifts. "

Ed: "Eell you have to give back. If you live in a community and you've been blessed by the community And you make your living in the community then why not give back to the community. It's as simple as that."

The family-friendly shows start at 7:30 on August 12th and 13th at the Imperial heatre. For ticket information head to ImperialTheatre.com.
