"Glee" Stars Too Racy In GQ?

Glee In GQ

FOX’s hit show “Glee” broke boundaries of bringing, in essence, musical theatre to television while also standing up for the groups of outcast teenagers that don’t fit in with the stereotypical popular cliques. It is one of the most talked about shows in years – watched by approximately thirteen million people, many of them teenagers. But now, two of the show’s actresses are coming under fire for a racy photo spread in GQ magazine.

The photos feature Dianna Agron (Quinn) and Lea Michele(Rachel) in high heels and skimpy lingerie posing around their costar, actor Cory Monteith (Finn). The Parents Television Council says that the photos border on “pedophilia” and are a “near-pornographic display”. It should be noted, however, that Argon and Michele are 24 and Monteith is 28.

“Glee” has been known to push the boundaries since it premiered by covering teen sexuality, pregnancy, gay issues, death, and disabilities. It is part of what has made the show so vastly popular. That is how Jim Nelson, the editor-in-chief of GQ magazine defends the shoot.

“What we wanted to celebrate in the shoot and the story is (the show's) playfulness, its wicked sense of fun, the clever way it plays with its self-awareness. And it doesn't hide from it sexual suggestiveness."

Agron has made an apology on her blog stating, “If you are hurt or these photos make you uncomfortable, it was never our intention.” She went on to note that this is not the first photo spread to push the envelop in a world of celebrity figures like Madonna, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and the TV show “Gossip Girl”.

“Now, in perpetuating the type of images that evoke these kinds of emotions, I am sorry. And if your eight-year-old has a copy of our GY cover in hand, again I am sorry. But I would have to ask, how on Earth did it get there?” Agron wrote.

What is your take on the “Glee” photo spread for GQ? Do you think the stars and magazine went too far or do you see it as pictures in an adult, not kids’, magazine? Tell us your thoughts.
